Her father belongs to a Kayastha family and her mother from a Sindhi family. Sonakshi Sinha mother was a former Miss Young India (1968).

She did her schooling at Arya Vidya Mandir and graduated in fashion designing from Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic of Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University (SNDT), Mumbai.
Career
Before her Bollywood debut, she worked as an usher ( a person who shows people where to sit) at the Lakme Fashion Week. After that, she also worked as a fashion designer. She made her acting debut with Bollywood movie titled Dabangg (2010) as Rajjo and won Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her debut movie Dabangg (2010).
In addition to acting in films, Sinha has sung song “Let’s Celebrate” in her film Tevar (2015) Aaj Mood Isqholic Hai (Single), Rajj Rajj Ke (Akira, 2016), Move Your Lakk (Noor, 2017), Chin Chin Choo (Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, 2018), Rafta Rafta Dekho Medley (Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, 2018). She appeared as a judge in many reality shows like- Indian Idol, Nach Baliye, Indian Idol Junior and Om Shanti Om.
