Joseph, Tito’s father, worked in a steel mill and also played RnB music in the Falcons band. Tito’s uncle Luther accompanied his brother in the band. Moreover, his mother Katherine is associated with a Catherine organization – Jehovah’s Witness. She was also a musician & played piano and clarinet.  

Tito Jackson has nine siblings – Rebbie, Jackie, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Brandon, Michael, Randy, and Janet.

Tito’s father, impressed by his guitar-playing skills, inspired him to form a band. At ten, Tito was caught playing his father’s guitar and managed to impress him. Joe then convinced Tito to start a band and asked Jackie and Jermaine to join, as their vocals were mesmerizing. 

Katherine, their mother, was a country-and-western music genre fan. She used to sing along with her sons. She later found that Michael and Marlon could sing too. Hence, they joined the band The Jacksons 5, founded by Tito.

The group “Jackson 5” used to perform in school functions and supermarkets before they started taking part in local competitions around the city. In 1967, the Jackson Brothers won the Amateur Night Competitions for the Apollo Theatre. After a few months, the group signed a contract with Steeltown Records in Gary in November 1967. With this label, they released their first song “Big Boy” in January 1968. 

In 1969, the Jackson Brothers signed with Motown Records and released some hit songs. Next, they signed with CBS Records in 1976. The Brothers started writing songs and worked as record producers for some years. The group entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

All the brothers in the Jackson group were not so consistent, except Tito and Jackie. Moving on, Tito Jackson began a solo career in 2003. He started performing Blues (music genre), forming a new band with a producer and a guitarist as well as a small management team. He appeared as a Judge in the BBC Celebrity Singing competition. By 2009, Michael had died and he became the executive producer of The Jacksons: The Family Dynasty. 

Tito Jackson had his first successful single release in 2016. The song “Get It Baby” was included in the Billboard charts and was released in different countries like Japan and the US. He launched his full album “Tito Time” for the UK in September 2017. Tito performed one of the songs from his album at the LLF Annual Awards in 2019. 

He released another single from his next album “Under Your Spell” on July 9, 2021, with the title “Love One Another”. The album features various amazing music artists including his brother Marlon. It explores pop and RnB sounds, besides Blues. 

His latest collaboration came up in 2023, with Brazilian artist Natalia Damini, releasing the song “Attitude” and a music video. 

Married Life 

Tito Jackson married Delores “Dee Dee” Martes in June 1972 when he was just 18. The couple had three sons together before they separated in 1988. Moreover, Jackson had nine grandchildren. 

Martes was found dead, floating in a swimming pool, in 1994. However, initially the death was declared accidental but later a Businessman from LA Donald Bohana was found guilty. 

How Did Jackson Die? 

Tito Jackson faced a heart attack on September 15, 2024, and died at the age of 70, declared by a hospital. He was traveling on a road trip with his business partner Terry Harvey. The two were transferring Jackson’s cars from California to his new residential house in Claremore. While on the trip, Jackson started sweating and complained of chest pain. He was called for an ambulance and was declared dead by a local hospital.

As already mentioned in the article, Michael had died before Tito became the executive producer of their family band in 2009. His memorial service was held at the Staples Centre, on 7 July 1997 in LA. The Jackson brothers served as pallbearers at the memorial service in respect of Mickael. 

Tito was immensely connected to Mickael. He had revealed in an interview that June became difficult for him to deal with as Michael died this month. Furthermore, he turned to his music to immortalize him.
