Early Life and Beginnings 

Aryna Sabalenka was born in Minsk, the capital of Belarus on May 5, 1998. She can be linked to her father for the love of tennis. She once said that she started playing tennis by chance. His father was taking him around the city in a car and saw some tennis courts on the way. He took her there and Aryna enjoyed playing tennis to a big extent. Hence, she trained in the field at the National Tennis Academy in Minsk in 2014. 

However, in 2015, Aryna Sabalenka was eligible to play in a junior-level tennis match with her team for the Belarusian Tennis Federation. The federation still persuaded her and the team to play in low-level professional events because she had no prior experience. This was her professional match.

At the age of 15, Aryna Sabalenka played in the low-level Grade-4 Tallink Cup in Estonia in 2013. Later this year, she won her first ITF junior title in doubles at the lowest-level Grade-5 Alatan Tour Cup. Furthermore, Aryna won her first singles title at the MTV Total Junior Cup in October 2014 in Finland. 

Professional Career 

The professional career for Aryna started in 2025. She made her Fed Cup debut in 2016 and also was listed among the top 200 tennis players and eventually at the position number 137 across the world. After playing for a while, she managed to reach the WTA tournament final and faced her childhood idol Maria Sharapova. However she lost in the match but her performance was so remarkable that she entered the top 100 with this match. 

High ranking in the top lists made her enter the WTA Tour 2018. She reached two quarterfinals but couldn’t beat the world’s no.18 player Ashleigh Barty from Australia. She then won her first matches at the Premiere tournament at the Indian Wells Open. With time, Aryna made it to qualify for the WTA Elite Trophy and defeated Ashleigh. With her great performance, she was named the WTA Newcomer of the Year. In 2020, she won three WTA titles, including her third Premiere-5 title. 

More recently, Aryna Sabalenka has won the 2024 Australian Open. She received praise for her dominant performances where she defeated world’s no.2 Barbora. In September 2024, she won the US Open and claimed her third Grand Slam title.
